Technology is a very big way Kenai Fjords is preserved and maintained. Global Positioning System(GPS), Geographic Information System(GIS), and remote sensing are all vital tools. Trimble GPS was used in a very important way, which is that it helped to navigate, update mass balance stake locations, and assess flow velocity of the amazing Harding Icefield. GPS, GIS, and remote sensing are used to record the area of photo points for a repeat photography project that recorded location change in Kenai Fjords. Another way they are used is to map the retreat of the Exit Glacier. Lastly, these tools can be used to map and monitor nonnative plant populations.
